$6,000 supportive cockatoo found Austin pet store, owner says

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A pet store in northwest Austin is happy to have its $6,000 cockatoo back after the bird was pulled from the store over the weekend.

The bird’s owner said Lemon Grab, a lemon-crested sulphur-crested cockatoo, disappeared from the Gallery of Pets store around closing time on Sunday afternoon.

The bird’s owner said someone grabbed the bird and got out. The outlet shared a clip of its surveillance video with KXAN around the time it believes the bird was stolen.

Lemon Grab is a pet for a store employee, the bird’s owner said. The cockatoo is young and must be fed by hand.

In an update Monday afternoon, the owner said she was contacted by someone who said they know where the bird was. They met on Monday night and Lemon Grab is now safe and sound.

A report has been filed with the Austin Police Department, the owner said, and they are still pursuing charges.

KXAN has contacted APD for further details. He confirmed the bird was stolen from the Gallery of Pets store around 5.55pm on Sunday. The thief is said to have left in a black van with two other people inside.
