COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITY: Humane Society of Cherokee County

Jackie Smith, leader of the Humane Society, manages most of the day-to-day operations of the group.

The Humane Society of Cherokee County is an animal shelter that aims to protect and help vulnerable animals. They take placements from the Cherokee County Animal Shelter as well as pets abandoned by owners and rescues of their own.

Jackie Smith, leader of the Humane Society, manages most of the day-to-day operations of the group. She says the main way to help is by donating wet and dry cat and dog food, high-quality puppy pads and pet litter. While citizens would like to give thoughtful gifts of pet toys and kitty litter, these cannot be used, due to the living conditions of the animals.

Additionally, Smith asks all pet owners to please focus on the proper care of their own pets, which includes having them spayed or neutered and making sure they have received their vaccinations. The key to having happy animals is to keep them healthy.

If you would like to help this organization, the best way to contact The Humane Society is through Facebook Messenger. They check this page frequently and keep it updated with their needs and information about animals currently available for adoption.

Pictured above with Smith, a sweet two-year-old cat awaits her forever home. Her name is Willow and she would like to live indoors with a caring family. If you are interested in adopting Sweet Willow or another deserving animal, please contact the Humane Society.

If you would like to donate food or other pet supplies, you can easily do so by dropping off your donation on the back steps at 238 Beaver Dam Road. The Humane Society greatly appreciates any help you can provide.
