Downtown Freeport Welcomes New Pet Store, Fin Fur Feather Pet Shop

FREEPORT – As a young girl growing up in Wisconsin, Chandra Cearns learned early on that she had a passion for animals.

Her mother was a veterinary technician and when Cearns was a teenager she volunteered at the local humanitarian society where she became active in animal care.

“I quickly learned that I had this passion for taking care of animals, and I also knew that animals needed someone to take care of them,” Cearns said. “It took me a while to get to the point in my life where I could have my own pet store, and with patience it paid off.”

Fin Fur Feather Pet Shop opened in downtown Freeport on November 19.

Cearns spent most of last summer preparing things. She got her license from the city of Freeport, but getting the state license from the Department of Agriculture caused a delay.

But last week Cearns got to see the dreams come to life.

“I walk into my store, listen to the animals and stop to talk to them as I get ready for the day,” she said.

Cearns also has a tattoo store called Girls Gotta Tattoo in the same block as his pet store.

She said she loves knowing that she has two businesses, and one that addresses the needs of dogs and cats.

Currently, Cearns primarily sells rabbits, fish, guinea pigs, birds and reptiles. She has geckos and a tarantula. She also sells reptile food.

Cearns takes pride in the personal care she is able to give to any pets in her care before someone buys them.

Socialization is the key to bringing any type of pet into the house, Cearns said, and Fin Fur Feather pets have plenty of them.

Andora Cearns believes that she developed the same love for taking care of animals as her mother.

“The difference is that we treat every animal in our store like it’s our own,” said Andora Cearns. “We give them the love and attention they need to make a successful transition home.”
