Michael Meyer, 54, of Rochester, has been charged with excessive driving, torture and injuring an animal, WROC reported. If convicted of minor offenses, Meyer could face a fine of $ 1,000 and one year in prison, the TV station reported.

According to officials from the Lollypop Farm Humane Society of Greater Rochester, one person, later identified as Meyer, was filmed beating a German Shepherd in the washroom at Henrietta Country Max store.

Investigators said they were originally unable to find Meyer, WHAM reported. However, on Tuesday, officials received a 911 report and help from Crime Stoppers and located Meyer. He was then arrested.

“This type of pet abuse is not something we can tolerate in our community,” Reno Di Domenico, Lollypop Farm vice president for law enforcement, told WROC. “We are grateful to the customers and store employees who reported this crime and to the Good Samaritan who sent the tip that brought this animal abuser to justice.”

Meyer is due in court in April, WHAM reported.
