News13 Animal of the Weekend: Moiraine


MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The News13 pet for the weekend of February 12-13 is Moiraine, a German Shepherd available for adoption through the Grand Strand Humane Society.

Moiraine came to the shelter as a wanderer and is believed to be around 10 years old, according to shelter spokeswoman Kathy Robinson. She is named after a character from the “Wheel of Time” novel series.

Moiraine would be the “perfect family dog,” Robinson said, adding that she is acting much younger than 10.

Moiraine is one of 65 dogs currently housed at the shelter, which is hosting one of its biggest adoption events of the year on Saturday and Sunday. Adoption fees are waived during the eventwhich runs between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. both days at the Bill M. Wingard Playground at the corner of 21st Ave N. and M. Joe White Ave in Myrtle Beach.

Additionally, during regular business hours, anyone wishing to adopt or foster a dog can find them at the old shelter facility at 3241 Mr. Joe White Avenue. For anyone wishing to adopt or foster a cat or kitten, they are currently catered for. at the temporary shelter location off Highway 501 at the Tanger Outlets across from Carolina Pottery in Conway.
