MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The News13 pet for the weekend of December 18-19 is Foxy Cleopatra, a one-year-old mixed-breed dog available for adoption through the Grand Strand Humane Society.
Foxy Cleopatra, the name of a character in Austin Powers’ movie “Goldmember”, came to the shelter as a stray, according to spokeswoman Kathy Robinson. She is “very friendly” and appears to be trained at home and at the cash desk, Robinson said.
She’s also great with kids and comfortable around other dogs, said Robinson.
Just one week before Christmas, Robinson said adoptions have slowed down somewhat, but the shelter still has several cats and dogs in need of permanent homes. Holidays are tough when it comes to adoptions because everyone is so busy with other things, she said.
For anyone looking for a pet, the shelter has cats at its temporary location off Hwy 501 at the Tanger Outlets across from Carolina Pottery in Conway. Dogs are kept in the old shelter facility at 3241 M. Joe White Ave.
The shelter also operates a clinic adjacent to its former location on Mr. Joe White Avenue. You can find more information about the clinics on the shelter’s website.
In addition, the authorities are still looking for land to build a new permanent location for the refuge. A GoFundMe page has been set up to benefit the shelter as it continues its capital improvement fundraising campaign.
