LAKEWOOD, Ohio (WJW) – A local pet store needs your help identifying the man who stole his beloved turtle from the store.

Surveillance cameras rolled as the man pulled the turtle out of its tank at the Pet’s general store on Madison Avenue in Lakewood.

“We didn’t notice it until one of our customers told us about it. He wanted to say goodbye to her and he couldn’t find it, ”said owner Greg Schnupp.

Schnupp says it was a busy Wednesday night and, after combing through hours of security footage, he finally spotted the theft.

“We saw the gentleman reach out and grab him. It was so overwhelming. We really enjoyed this little guy. She’s a red-footed female, ”Schnupp said.

Schnupp says he’s a valuable pet worth over $ 300.

But what is more upsetting for him is that the man committed the crime with a toddler chasing him.

“Especially since the man has a child in his arms and does that.” It’s a shame that’s how we show kids how to deal with business and everything, ”said Schnupp.

Pet’s General Store has been in business for over 20 years and this is the first time something like this has happened in a very long time.

The store recently installed a surveillance camera system and is grateful for capturing the incident.

“It hurts. It’s sad that someone is doing this and not thinking about what they are doing to a company, to an individual, ”said Schnupp.

Schnupp says the Lakewood Police Department is investigating.

In the meantime, he hopes someone recognizes the man in the video so he can get his beloved turtle back.

“I hope he’s taking care of the animal right now. I hope he will just return the turtle. It’s a shame, ”said Schnupp.

Anyone with information about the man in the video is asked to call Lakewood Police.
